Our Commitment to Racial Justice

At Rebecca Marlin Pet Care, we believe Black Lives Matter. We are committed to racial justice and to bringing anti-racism work into every aspect of our business. Here are some of the ways we are living out that commitment in our business, and we welcome further suggestions or feedback at rebecca@rebeccamarlinpetcare.com.

Organization of the Month

  • Since its founding in 2017, Rebecca Marlin Pet Care has always been committed to investing in BIPOC-led initiatives in our local community through our Organization of the Month program. We have always been committed to donating at least 10% of our profits, and sometimes more, to local organizations providing direct services to marginalized populations. We have focused on small, grassroots groups with BIPOC leadership who are committed to social justice work. Please take a look at our Organization of the Month page to learn more and see which organizations we have partnered with in the past.

  • Each month, we have featured the chosen organization on our website and included a post on our social media pages. Going forward, we will be connecting more deeply with these organizations by attending events that they host and organize, interviewing organization members, and sharing more information about the organizations on our social media pages and newsletters to create more awareness about the incredible people working in our communities.

Hiring and Training

  • We have always been committed to attracting and retaining a diverse staff, and we will continue to do so through recruiting BIPOC pet sitters and ensuring that we create a safe and welcoming work environment.

  • We will be adding Diversity and Inclusion training as part of our training process.

  • Throughout the hiring and training process, there will be a full discussion with pet sitters about our commitment to racial justice and how we practice anti-racism in our business.

  • All pet sitters will be provided with official Rebecca Marlin Pet Care ID badges, which can be clearly displayed and presented if a pet sitter is stopped by police or concerned neighbors while they are visiting a home.

Our Policies on Racism

We have all been watching the protests unfold across the globe in response to the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks, and far too many others. At Rebecca Marlin Pet Care, we have always been firmly committed to Black Lives Matter and to creating a diverse and inclusive environment for our pet sitters and clients, as well as giving back to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) members of our community. We also we wish to state here our policies regarding any racism that may occur as it relates to our staff, clients, and the communities we serve.

At Rebecca Marlin Pet Care, we do not tolerate racism in any shape or form, either against our team members, against our clients, or against our communities. We recognize that our clients come from diverse backgrounds, and we want to ensure that our clients feel safe and valued by our management and staff. If we become aware of any form of racial discrimination or harassment committed by a team member either on the job or outside of their job, this will be grounds for termination.

Additionally, we are committed to hiring and supporting a diverse team of pet sitters. We recognize that for our pet sitters, the client’s home is their workspace. We will make every effort to ensure that we can offer safe and welcoming work environments for all of our pet sitters. If we become aware of racial discrimination or harassment committed by a client, this will be grounds to terminate our service relationship.

Thank you for being a member of the Rebecca Marlin Pet Care community, and for joining us in this commitment to stand against racism.
